Microsoft has released its first Windows 11 preview build today. Windows Insiders can download the Windows 11 preview ( build 22000.51) right now that includes access to the new Start menu, multitasking capabilities as well as a revamped Microsoft Store. The official preview, in contrast to the previous Windows 11 leak, has an upgraded File Explorer. It replaces the ribbon with the command bar, making more efficient management of your files.
This preview will incorporate the bulk of the visual improvements to Windows 11 that Microsoft announced the previous week. The new build comes with the Start menu, which comes with an interface that resembles a launcher and has rounded corners present throughout. There are also improvements to the notification center, along with volume flyouts and other areas. If your device has an accelerometer, it will be able to detect motion. Windows 11 lock screen will come with a parallax effect.
Windows 11's new themes, as well as the dark mode and light mode enhancements, are also part of this preview. They're also part of the new Widgets feature. The latest themes, including Glow, Captured Motion, Sunrise, and Flow -- are designed with the centered taskbar in mind. Microsoft has paired them with brand new sound effects included in Windows 11 as you use the OS.
Two crucial Windows 11 features are missing. However, they are missing Microsoft Teams integration and Android apps for Windows. Both are in the process of being developed, and test by Microsoft but are expected to be included in later beta builds.
This Windows 11 preview also includes Microsoft's new Snap Groups and Snap Layouts features to increase multitasking across various sizes. The new Snap features are built on many multitasking features that have been in Windows for many years. Still, they help users discover them and more useful -- primarily when used in multi-monitor situations.
Microsoft is also updating the Settings section of Windows 11. The preview build also includes enhancements that make it easier for users to find the settings they need. Settings now include upper-left-hand navigation that is consistent throughout, making it simpler to navigate between sections. Microsoft has added the brand new "hero" controls at the top that offer quick access to information or settings that are appropriate to every section.
